Graveside service for Mr. Randall Bone, 76, of Etowah, North Carolina, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Hokes Bluff Cemetery with his son-in-law, Jason Paige, officiating the service.
Mr. Bone passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Nachin Maddy Bone, daughters Deborah, Tina, and Alysia Bone, and grandchildren Ben, Grace, and James Heltzel, Cora, Kinsell, and Hayes McMullen, Matteus Paige, baby granddaughter Paige, who will be born in January, his brother Archie Bone, and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Randolph and Cora Bone.
Randall was born in Hokes Bluff and left this world from North Carolina, but he journeyed all over the globe during his lifetime. After graduating from Hokes Bluff, he learned electronics and eventually became a mechanical engineer and computer programmer. His work took him to Madagascar in the late 1960s to track satellites for NASA. He worked as an engineer for Olin/Ecusta in Brevard, North Carolina, where he and Nachin raised their daughters. In the 1990s, Randall took a series of engineering positions that led him and Nachin to live for periods in Tennessee, Arizona, Minnesota, Texas, back home in Alabama, and New Mexico. In New Mexico, Randall worked on the VLA Radio Satellite project in Socorro and had the opportunity to do work in Chile.
Randall and Nachin traveled extensively throughout their life together, abroad to countries in East Africa and Europe. In the US, they visited states from coast to coast, and from Florida to Maine. He loved the outdoors, especially the rugged landscapes of the American Southwest. He was an avid photographer and gun collector. Randall never stopped learning. He embraced the newest computer technology, and in his later life even took up blogging.
Randall was a man of faith and belonged to various congregations over his life, primarily St. Phillips Episcopal in Brevard. He was also a man of science and enjoyed pondering questions about the physics of the universe and how God's hand is in evidence. Randall had a remarkable mind, a kind and generous heart, and a quiet, gentle spirit. He was deeply loved by a huge extended family stretching across the globe. He touched so many lives and helped so many achieve their goals. He will be forever missed.
Memorial service to be held in Brevard, in Spring, 2022.
