Randall George Suggitt, age 74, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on March 18, 2024, at his home in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born on February 01, 1950, in Sault Ste. Marie, to George and Betty (Russell) Suggitt.
Randy was the eldest of four growing up in the Sault, where he graduated from Sault High School in 1968, and then went on to serve in the United States Army from 1971-1973. He was invited to pursue a PhD in the first ever graduate program for computer science in the country, sadly, he had to decline due to the birth of his child; however, this choice greatly enriched his life with the joy of fatherhood. He completed his master's degree and worked for more than thirty years as a math and computer science professor at Lake Superior State University.
Randy was an active member of his community. He was a member of The Lion's Club. He went out of his way to help clean freeways, refill the Lions' mints, and served on the Lions board as treasurer. He also volunteered annually at I-500 where he helped build the I-500 button shed. His philanthropic work extended beyond the organizations he loved and supported to actions in the community by volunteering to make maple syrup, donated blood every donation period, helped his friend to a build gazebo, drove friends to doctor's appointments as needed, and fostered cats. In short, Randy was always available for any person or request no matter how big or small. He would give the shirt off his back if it could help keep someone else warm.
Randy enjoyed trivia, carpentry & renovation, hockey games (playing and watching), ice skating, card games of bridge and poker, music in the park, visiting his lake house, going for drives in the countryside and most of all, visiting family & seeing his children.
Randy was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and so much more. He was generous, giving, hardworking, helpful, and funny. He was known and loved by so many people-the passing of Randy is a truly great loss to both our family and the local community. A genuinely good person, who touched countless lives, Randy will be truly missed. "They don't make'em like that anymore."
Randy is survived by his children, Jule (Mike) Thomas of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Gavin (Nicole) Suggitt of Concord, North Carolina, Amber (Lori) Suggitt of Ypsilanti, Michigan, Miranda (Emily) Suggitt of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Gavin (Abbey) Wallis; Michael Murtagh, Madison Murtagh, Christian (Sara) Suggitt, Nicholas Southern, Spencer Roy, and Felix Thomas; great-grandchildren, Penelope and Peyton McCutcheon, and Camryn Suggitt; siblings, Brenda (Dennis) Bennette of Barbeau, Michigan, Nancy (Don) Sawruk of Sault Ste. Marie, and Alan (Anne) Suggitt of Sault Ste. Marie and many nieces and nephews.
Randy is preceded in death by partner, Ellen Boyce; son, Brandon Suggitt; parents, George and Betty Suggitt; and ex-wife, C. Jo (Maltas) Doran.
Memorial service will be held on June 29, 2024, with time and location given later.
Memorial contributions may be made in Randy's name to The Lion's Club, P.O. Box 836, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan 49783.

Early in our acquaintance, Randy offered to help me renovate my bathroom, and my husband and I decided to take him up on it. He was a true teacher, coming over to our house once a week , not just helping but teaching. We would work for an hour or so, and then he would tell me what to have done by the next time he came over. I learned so much, I was able to renovate another bathroom by myself, and I continue to use the skills he taught me. Later, when he was renovating his own house, he let me help him and taught me even more skills. He was a great teacher, and fun to be around. He always had a great story to tell. I feel honored to have known him.
