Randolph Sarles Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rose Funeral & Cremation - Mann on Feb. 17, 2026.
Surrounded by family, Randolph Marc (Randy) Sarles of Knoxville, TN passed away on February 13, 2026, following a short battle with aggressive cancer.

Randy was born on March 10th, 1952, in Wooster, Ohio to Raymond Lloyd and Florence Cook Sarles. In 1964, the family moved from Omaha, NE to small-town Princeton, WV where Randy spent most of his growing-up years with sisters Elizabeth and Margaret, graduating from Princeton High School, attending Concord College and then West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. He married Kellan Lou Kight, his college sweetheart from Hagerstown, MD, in 1975, becoming "Meathead" to his father-in-law, Harry, who would henceforth be forever known as "Archie."

Randy worked at Princeton Community Hospital (PCH) from 1976 until 2007, first as a staff pharmacist and later as Pharmacy Director, earning the love and respect of the entire medical staff for his knowledge, thoroughness, and quiet dependability. After retiring from PCH, Randy worked at Bluefield Regional Medical Center and Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center, Princeton.

Diabetic from age 9, Randy was incredibly disciplined –never letting the disease be an excuse for less than his best performance. He led diabetes education classes at PCH and was a diabetes counselor for CVS. He also taught pharmacology courses for Concord University. His wish was that his body be donated to the UT School of Anthropology to further research for a cure for diabetes.

Above all, Randy loved home and family and was so proud of sons Ben and Andy. He coached boys' soccer, and loved to watch the boys play basketball and Little League baseball. He supported Kellan in her activities and teaching career, and helped found Friends Unlimited, a social community for adults with disabilities. Randy loved to ride his bike –especially on the backroads of West Virginia. He enjoyed fraternity reunions, back-yard cookouts, multi-generational family vacations, international trips with Kellan, and a cold beer with friends.

In 2017, Randy and Kellan moved with Ben to Knoxville where they could participate in the lives of their children and grandchildren. Randy enjoyed making improvements to their new home and helping Kellan create and nurture vegetable and flower gardens. He could fix almost anything and was frugal for himself but generous with others. He especially loved the people and ministry of Erin Presbyterian Church.

He leaves to mourn his passage wife, Kellan Lou (Kight) Sarles; son, Benjamin Randolph Sarles; son, Dr. Stephen Andrew Sarles and wife Kelsey Sarles; grandchildren, Reed Andrew and Ali Jade Sarles; sisters, Elizabeth Ellen Moore of Charlotte, NC and Margaret Cook Choate (Dennis) of Pinehurst, NC; sister in law, Sally Gallena and husband Rich of Severna Park, MD; brother-in-law, Harry Edward (Ed) Kight and wife Denise McDougall of Bel Air, MD; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service for Randy will be held at Erin Presbyterian Church on February 27th at 3:00 PM with a time of visitation one hour prior. Memorial donations may be made to Erin Presbyterian Church, 200 Lockett Road, Knoxville, TN 37919, or to a charity of your choice.

To our dear friend Kellan and to all of Randy´s family,

Please know you are thought of throughout our days and our arms are wrapped around all of you during this grievous time.

Randy´s quiet, calming demeanor spoke volumes in this sometimes chaotic world.
He was one of the most intelligent, empathetic and caring friends we have ever known. Really a good and decent man.

All of us have lost a wonderful friend and he will be missed terribly.

Love to all, Jim and Ginger

Randy was one of my favorite classmates. Early on, I recognized his intelligence , kindness, empathy, and healthy sense of humor - he was someone I could trust to be my friend. His obituary and the comments of friends and coworkers revealed the remarkable life path, this kind, thoughtful, bright boy chose to follow throughout adulthood. Very few people bring such light and comfort into the world. I share in the sorrow of those whose life he touched - regretting that time and miles often separate us in our respective journeys from those whose support can often mean the most. To Kellen, her sons, and their families, I too join in your grief; be sustained by the years of love and support you were granted together.

So very sorry to hear of Randy´s passing. Randy and I were good friends through high school (PHS Class of `70), as well as fraternity brothers at Concord College. May God bless Randy and his family.

I went to high school with Randy and also worked at PCH for awhile when he was there. He reached out to me when my daughter was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic at age 20. Keller and Randy also reached out to my brother's family when their first son was born with Down's Syndrome. He was a wonderful caring person who never complained and was always there for others. My heart goes out to all the family for your loss.

Randy will be missed. Randy was a wonderful co-worker at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. He was so professional, yet so funny. The last time I heard from Randy was 2 years ago, He sent me a blonde joke on Facebook messenger. He always talked about his family and how much he enjoyed spending time with them. May the Lord give his family peace and comfort during this difficult time.

Mrs. Sarles,

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. There are truly no words that feel adequate in moments like this, but I wanted you to know how much you mean to me and how much you are being thought of.

Being in your AP English class was such a formative experience in my life. You challenged me, believed in me, and helped shape the way I think and write in ways that still stay with me today. The care and passion you poured into your students was evident every single day, and it made a lasting difference.

My heart aches for you and your family. I hope you find comfort in the love that surrounds you and in the many lives you and your husband have touched. Please know that one of your former students is holding you close in thought and prayer during this incredibly difficult time.

With my deepest sympathy and gratitude.

I´ve known Randy since high school. We worked together, he in pharmacy and I as a medication nurse and later as a PACU nurse. Kellen taught my boys Ronnie,Matthew and Caleb at Princeton High School. I remember Randy riding his bike or walking to work. His personality matched his heart, always giving, compassionate and eager to help in any way he could. I remember his smile but most of all I remember his love for his family. I am praying for Kellen and Ben and Andy and for all who knew and loved him. You will surely be missed but your legacy will live on.

Randy was always true to his word. It was an honor to work with him for 30 years! Dedication to the job or task at hand.

He loved his family so much. A quiet man, Randy did speak about Kellan and his boys as they meant so much to him.

Personally, Randy mentored me as a younger pharmacist. He taught me a lot about how to be a hospital pharmacist.

We had the most enjoyment working together as staff pharmacists in the final years of our career from 2010-2017 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

My prayers will continue for his special family.

A life well lived Randy!

To the family! I worked with Randy when he was Pharmacy Director, and I was the IVTherapy Coordinator! Randy, was my BOSS! Randy was unique, he was brilliant, he was very task oriented and wanted his team to be the best they could be. He was a teacher who led by example; he was also compassionate and had a great sense of humor! I have not seen Randy since 2008 when he attended my Mother's funeral.Just knowing he is not with us any longer makes me sad...God got one of the best! Condolences to Kellan, and Randys family.
