Larry 'Randy' Martin, 78, of Troup, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025. He was born on January 6, 1947, to Gladys Sharp Martin and Carroll Houston Martin. Randy was preceded in death by his wife Debbie, parents and his brothers, Charles and Bobby Martin.
Randy was the loving husband of the late Debbie Bates Martin for 53 years and together they leave behind a large, devoted family. He is survived by his children, Jill and Bobby Herrington, Lori and Clint Wilson, Joey and Tami Martin, and Randi Mahomes. He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren: Hannah Evans, Taylor Danley, Bradyn Reeves, Patrick Mahomes, Grant Herrington, Sam Martin, Savannah Martin, Jackson Mahomes, Emma Herrington, Houston Martin, Demi Fults, Jagger Fults, and Mia Randall. Randy also adored his great-grandchildren, Vivian, Evolet, Sterling, Colton, Briggs, Bronze, Natalie, Christian, Gabriel, Brooklynn, Whitt, Tripp, and Golden. He is also survived by his siblings, Rex and Donna Martin, and Carolyn Gray.
Randy's professional life was marked by his passion for education and service. With Master's degrees in Agriculture and Sociology, he dedicated his career to teaching, counseling, and school administration. He served at Troup, Maydelle, Palestine, LaPoyner, and Whitehouse schools, touching the lives of countless students along the way. Randy also worked for TDCJ and the Gatesville Boys School, and spent 10 years as a drug and alcohol abuse counselor, where he made a significant impact on many lives.
He touched the lives of everyone around him with inquisitive spirit, wisdom, and love of music. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who knew him.
Services for Randy Martin 78 of Troup, will be held Monday February 17, 2025. A visitation will begin at 1:00 and the service at 2:00 led by Pastor Stevie Oaks, Bradyn Reeves and Hannah Evans.
Pallbearers will include Sam and Houston Martin, Grant Herrington, Patrick and Jackson Mahomes, and Jagger Fults.
In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to Troup Library mailing address P.O. Box 721 Troup, TX 75789 in honor of Larry Randy Martin.
