Randy Wheeler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duffy-Poule Funeral & Cremation Services - Attleboro on Mar. 19, 2026.
Randy Smith Wheeler, 71, of Attleboro, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 10. Randy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose kindness, curiosity, and love of life left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Born on February 14, 1955-fittingly, Valentine's Day-Randy was the son of the late Glenn Wheeler and Dorothy (Smith) Wheeler. He spent much of his life in Attleboro, where he built both his career and his family.

Randy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Southeastern Massachusetts University and went on to work for several prominent general contracting firms throughout Massachusetts. As an estimating engineer, he contributed to numerous local construction projects, quietly helping to shape the communities around him. His work included projects such as Showcase Cinemas and developments around Gillette Stadium.

Despite ongoing health challenges related to kidney disease, Randy persevered with strength and determination. He enjoyed gardening and traveling with his family whenever his health allowed. When he was feeling well, he proudly served as an assistant coach for his children, Kate and Craig, sharing life lessons and even teaching them how to drive, change the oil or play baseball. Above all, his deep love for his family and for life itself was evident in the way he showed up each day, teaching those around him the importance of resilience and never giving up.

Randy had a natural curiosity about how things worked. He loved taking apart broken tools, gadgets, and even cars, just to understand them and put them back together in his own way. He was also a fan of classic '70s rock and roll, especially The Beatles, and his favorite song, "Spirit in the Sky," which reflected his lighthearted and peaceful outlook on life's journey.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Laura Lee (Wayne) Wheeler of Attleboro, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage; his daughter, Katelyn of Middleboro. His son, Craig Wheeler and his wife, Meghan of Attleboro. Randy was the proud grandfather of Merrin Donovan of Middleboro and Mackenzie Wheeler of Attleboro.

Randy is also survived by his brother, Gary Wheeler and his wife Janet of Athol, Massachusetts; his brother-in-law John Wayne and his wife Gail of Warwick, Rhode Island; and several nieces and extended family members.

He was predeceased by many beloved family members, including his father, Glenn Wheeler; his mother, Dorothy (Smith) Wheeler; his aunt, Clare Foley; his uncle, David Foley; his grandmothers, Mary Smith and Flora Wheeler; William and Martha Wayne; Megan Wayne; Perley Wheeler; Russell Fontneau; and others who held a special place in his life.

In honor of Randy's well-known love of plaid shirts and caps, guests are encouraged to dress as they feel appropriate, with a touch of plaid or a favorite cap as a tribute to him.

The family would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Fresenius Dialysis Clinic for the compassionate and outstanding care they provided to Randy over the years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 11am on March 28, 2026 at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 15 Sanford Street, Attleboro, MA. Burial will take place privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Randy's memory to the American Kidney Fund: https://www.kidneyfund.org/kidney-donation-and-transplant
