Raphael Holt Andrews, Sr. 88, of Wynne, AR, died Friday, August 29, 2008, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born May 26, 1920, to John Holtzclaw and Nina Block Andrews in Wynne, AR, he attended the Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN, and received a Bachelor�s degree from the University of Arkansas where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. He served in the Army Air Corp in World War II and then returned to Wynne to assist in family farming enterprises and to work at the Cross County Bank where he was President from 1970 until his retirement in 1986. He was married to Barbara Jean McDonald in 1956 and together they had five children; Holt of Spartanburg, Barbara of Boise, ID, Block of Overland Park, KS, Julie of Grafton of WV, and Marty of Magnolia, AR. Raphael (Rafe) was active in community life in a number of ways, including City Council, The Boy Scouts, Easter Seals, the Chamber of Commerce and the Federal Housing Authority. He was a lifelong member and Lay Reader at Grace Episcopal Church of Wynne. His many discreet philanthropic activities left no plaques or signs but their impact has been felt in many ways throughout the Wynne area. Rafe enjoyed reading, sunshine, humor and far-away places. He and Barbara (Bobbie) made a number of visits to Europe, China, Thailand, and India. He loved his sons and daughters-in-law as his own and delighted in his thirteen grandchildren, especially when they gave their parents trouble. Surviving are his wife Barbara (Bobbie); son Holt, his wife Marcia and their children Carrie and Rafe; daughter Barbara Frizzell, her husband Tyler, and their children Erin, William, Alex, Jonathan, and Anna; son Block, his wife Adrienne and their children Janelle and Cameron; daughter Julie Reneau, her husband Paul and their children Kirsten, Rachel and Sarah; and daughter Marty Wilson, her husband J.P. and their daughter, Elizabeth Anne. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2008, at First United Methodist Church of Wynne, AR. conducted by the Rev. Thompson Murray. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cross County Public Library, 410 East Merriman, Wynne, AR 72396; and Grace Episcopal Church, 1018 Marion Drive, Wynne, AR 73296 An online guest register is available at www.floydmortuary.com.
