Raúl P. Algarin
Rochester, New York: passed away on January 24, 2024. He was born to Baltasar Algarin and Juana Perez on November 30, 1933 in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico (PR). Raúl was a committed follower and loving servant of his Lord Jesus Christ.
He wore many hats. Raúl worked as a RTS bus driver before returning to Puerto Rico where he completed a three-year Certification of Ordained Ministry through the Christian Institute 'Cristo Misionera'. In addition to his ministry, Raúl provided bodyguard services for the Mayor of Rio Grande, PR. He was also the Director of the new Cemetery in the same city. Upon returning to Rochester, NY, Raul entered employment with the Rochester City School District as a boiler engineer.
From his first marriage, Raul is survived by his eldest son Elieser Algarin Rivera and by his only daughter Ruth Algarin Rivera, who grieves their father. Olga Algarin Porrata, his loving wife of fifty-two-years, with whom he had his two younger sons, Samuel Algarin Porrata and Jose Raul Algarin Porrata, mourns his death. Samuel, his loyal caregiver, grieves the loss of his father. Raul is survived by three daughters-in-law, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition, he has seven siblings, nieces, and nephews, and three brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, who lament his passing away. Raúl was predeceased by his parents, Baltasar and Juana, and his youngest son Jose Raul Algarin Porrata.
Raúl's family will host a private viewing Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 12:30pm, and for all others from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Vay-Schleich and Meeson, 1075 Long Pond Road in Greece, NY. The committal service will take place Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11:00 am, where family and friends will meet at the gates of Riverside Cemetery located at 2650 Lake Avenue, Rochester, NY.
