In Loving Memory of Raúl Calderon Padilla

Raúl Calderon Padilla, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and Godfather, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, in San Pablo, California, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 90 years old.

Raúl was born on September 30, 1935, in Ibarra, Jalisco, Mexico, to Rito Calderon and Maria Padilla, who preceded him in death. He was the youngest of 8 children, 5 of which have preceded him in death and 2 of which he is survived by.

A skilled builder, plumber (learned from his brother, Salvador) and true jack of all trades, Raúl was known for his hardworking nature, resourcefulness, and dedication to providing for his family. He took great pride in his work. As a young man in Mexico, he helped build the Estadio Azteca (now Estadio Banorte), which was one of his proudest accomplishments. He found joy in caring for his four horses (including one affectionately named Colitas, which he always told stories of) and would even race them. Raúl also took great pleasure in tending to his roosters for many years. You could always find him walking around in his favorite hat chatting with the neighbors and passersby or driving around in his beloved blue truck. And at his side always, was his loyal little chihuahua, Baby, a constant companion who brought him comfort and joy. He treasured his time spent with his sons watching wrestling (his favorite wrestler being Kenny Omega) and boxing or watching western, religious and golden-age era Mexican movies. Fun times were always had on family road trips and camping in Yosemite. He would often read the bible and reflect or have deep theological conversations with his sons.

Raúl is survived by his loving wife, Magaly Bolaños Ortiz; his sons, Alex Calderon and Walter Solares (Heather Solares-Horsfield); and his cherished grandchildren, David Alejandro Horsfield, Maria Idaliza Solares-Horsfield, Evy Calderon, and Isabella Rosemarie Solares-Horsfield.

He is also lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews and Godchildren, Evelin Ninette Bolaños (Fabian Trejo), Juan Carlos Sapon Bolaños (Melissa Ureña Sapon), Beatriz Gonzalez Bolaños, Zuly Beatriz Reyes Bolaños de Domínguez (Tito Domínguez), Edgar Humberto Reyes Bolaños (Madeline de Reyes), and so many others; as well as his grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Juan Antonio Flores, Jennifer Ashley Trejo Bolaños, Kevin Gael Trejo Bolaños, and many more whose lives he touched.

Raúl will be remembered for his tough exterior but soft heart, his strength, craftsmanship, his devotion to family, and his love of dancing and singing; especially serenading his wife, the love of his life. Even during his time with dementia, he was still able to remember and recognize those he loved. His legacy lives on in the generations he helped build, both with his hands and his heart.
