On Thursday, October 30, 2025, Ray Anthony Barre entered the eternal gates of heaven at the age of 68. He was born on November 8, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Nora and Gloria Borne Barre. He was the third of six children and raised in the small town of Hahnville/Luling, Louisiana.
Ray confessed his love for God and was baptized at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church on June 4, 2023, by Rev. Shateek A. Nobles, Sr.
Ray was a former employee of Avondale Shipyard and Offshore. His greatest concern was taking care of the widows and the people in his community. He will be remembered for his kind and generous service.
His memories are cherished by his devoted fiancée' Carla Wright-Smith. Siblings Cathy Barre, Glenn (Debra) Barre of Luling. Mary Stewart of Hahnville and Mona (Gary) Wilson of Lafayette, LA. His children Damien (Tanisha) & Quiana Francois, Catina Celestine, Ebony Wright, Raya, Reya, Rolanda & Ranada Smith. Godchild Dana Davis, along with an aunt and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends & his extended family of Westwego, Louisiana.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents Nora & Gloria A (Borne) Barre, brother Kirk Barre, son Ray (Cano) Francois & nephew Roluan Turner.
Relatives and friends of the family, Pastors, officers and members of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring Churches are invited to the Celebration of Life Services at 11:00am on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 10867 River Rd, Ama, LA 7003. Rev. Shateek A. Nobles, Sr.-Pastor-Officiating. Visitation 9:00am until the time of service at the above-named Church. Interment Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery, Ama, LA. Final Arrangements entrusted to Patrick H. Sanders Funeral Home & Funeral Directors, LLC. 605 Main Street, Laplace, LA 70068. 985-359-1919. The neighborhood will not be the same with Ray gone. He was loved by many and will be missed by many more. Carla, we love and are praying for you and are here for you if you need us. Prayers for Ray´s family, may God comfort you in this difficult time and know that he is no longer suffering enjoying his new body in the presence of the Father. I´m sure he was welcomed by many at the gates when he arrived and now he´s catching up on stories with my Pat and Peewee up there.
