Loved, loved Pa Ray so much. He represents the best of the best things in life to me. He and his wife, Vernel attended my grandfather’s church as a teenager at Flippen Memorial Baptist Church, Mt Airy. My grandfather married them and baptized both of them. They were like an aunt and uncle to me because they were always with my family. We went on many beach trips together through the years. I lived with them when I first moved to Mt Airy until I was married. They loved me just like I was their very own, rocked my babies and went to church together. It is so hard to see important role models like this leave us here to carry on without them. I am so proud that I had such a wonderful person that shared every detail of my life with me. I will forever hear his laughter, feel his love for all people, his belief and trust in the Lord and hear his beautiful voice as he sang harmonies a capella with Vernel. Hearing them sing together never grew old. I loved it. So until we meet again Pa Ray, sleep sweetly with your beloved ancestors and friends until we rise again
