Ray Wesley Hackney, 89, of Sarasota, FL., passed away October 23, 2023 with his wife and children by his side. He was born April 18, 1934 in Danville, Illinois to the late John and Mable (Youngblood) Hackney.
Ray graduated from Oakwood High School in Oakwood, Illinois, and The General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. He earned a degree in Engineering and served as an engineer for GM in Danville, Illinois; then The Iowa Malleable Iron Company in Fairfield, Iowa; and finally served as the General Manager for The Dexter Company in Fairfield, Iowa for 30 years.
Ray was a member of the Elks Lodge in Fairfield, Iowa. He enjoyed reading, boating, fishing and playing his favorite Rummy card game renaming it "Ray wins." Ray and Emily retired to Murray, Kentucky and St Pete Beach, Florida. In their later years, they moved to Coppell, Texas and then to Sarasota, Florida in 2022.
Left to cherish Ray's memory are his wife of 68 years, Emily (Emery) Hackney; daughters Cathy (Luke) Jagen of Olathe, Kansas; Jane (Harlyn) Vander Linden of Sarasota, Florida; son David (Janet) Hackney of Coppell, Texas; brother John (Linda) Miller of Danville, Illinois; grandchildren Jennifer (Caleb) Eggink of Overland Park, Kansas; Hollie (Adam) Cooper of Culver City, California; and Jason Harward of Pearland, Texas; and great grandchildren Preston Eggink, Owen Eggink, Avery Cooper, Morgan Cooper, and Madison Harward.
In addition to his parents, Ray was predeceased by his brother, Steven Miller, and great granddaughter Savannah Harward. Memories and condolences may be left for the family online at www.MFHcares.com.
