Ray Johnson Obituary

RAY BERT JOHNSON
July 12, 1939 ˜ June 21, 2023

Ray Bert Johnson was born July 12, 1939, in Aberdeen, WA, to Lillian and Jesse Johnson. He graduated from Aberdeen High School and then attended Central Washington University. Ray earned his teaching degree in Music and began his life long career. He was happiest whenever he could compose, arrange, teach or perform.

He began teaching in Warden, WA, and then moved to Vashon Island, WA, teaching both instrumental and vocal music. Ray and his family moved to Vancouver in 1970 where he helped open the “new” Fort Vancouver High School. He had so many fond memories of his years at Fort and of his Trapper “kids”. He was able to keep in touch with many of his “kids” and their kindness will never be forgotten.

Ray leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Judy Maw; his daughter, Crystal (Steve) Prins; and his son, Marc (Marcie) Johnson. He was so proud of all six of his granddaughters, Samantha Prins, Haley (Steven) Schneider, Sydney Prins, Stephanie Noland, Izzy Carter, and Ellie Rue Johnson.

Ray requested that no service be held-so, when you think of Ray, sing a song and SMILE!

Ray was the husband of my cousin Judy. The few times we were able to visit always proved to be a delightful time of talking music and family.
