Marlboro- Raymond Henry "Ray" Mercier, 71, of Mercier Road, died Sunday morning, January 29, 2023 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family following an extended period of declining health.
Ray was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts on February 10, 1951, the son of Henry and Lucille (Lepine) Mercier. He was raised and educated in Holyoke graduating from Holyoke Trade School. He attended college before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.
Ray worked in maintenance employed by Agri-Mark, Inc. of West Springfield, MA where he retired from in 2022 following 32 faithful years with the company. Previously he worked as a welder for Digital Equipment of Westfield, MA.
An ardent outdoorsman, Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, welding and time spent with his family.
A communicant of Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Church, he was married at Saint Michael's to Terry Jane Hrib on August 14, 2010.
Besides his devoted and faithful wife, he leaves his five children: sons, Matthew of Marlboro, Timothy of Jamaica, and Raymond of Vernon; daughters, Lisa Barns of CT and Amy Hinkle of Shelburne Falls, MA; two brothers, Richard and Michael Mercier, both of Jamaica; six sisters, Susan, Pauline, Rose, Diane, Janice and Donna; two step-brothers, Charles and Norman Blake; and a step-sister, Helen Wilkinson. Additionally, he is survived by 10 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one son, Richard "P.T." Mercier and two brothers, Dennis and Henry Mercier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 A.M. at Saint Michael's Catholic Church. Committal services and burial with military honors will take place in the springtime in North Cemetery in Vernon.
Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 6 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ray's name may be made to: Windham County Humane Society, P.O. Box 397, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
