Ray Gene Peterson, 84, passed away on July 21, 2025. Gene was born on April 4, 1941 in Martinsville, IN, the son of Carey and Evelyn Peterson.
He married his childhood sweetheart, Kay Walker Peterson in Roswell, NM on January 29, 1960. Gene owned Truck and Trailer Supply, a heavy-duty truck parts store. He and his son Mark made a lifetime commitment serving the Southeastern New Mexico area.
Gene enjoyed radio control airplanes, working with the Boy Scouts, and sitting at the computer working on his stock trading. He loved being in his shop and spent time crafting his woodworking skills. Gene and Kay also loved camping and spent a lot of time in the mountains. No matter what he was doing, you could always count on Gunsmoke being on the TV when he was relaxing at night.
Gene is survived by his son Mark Peterson and wife Nancy, his daughter Pam Horner and husband Billy, his three grandchildren, Kaylee Peterson Rodriguez (husband Jourdan), Amy Horner Brown (husband Cody), and Tyler Peterson, his two great-grandsons Witten and Zayven Rodriguez, his sister-in-law Anne Walker, and his nephew Josh Walker (wife Jayne) and their son Rowan Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Jimmy Hamilton will officiate Gene's service at 10 am on Friday, July 25, 2025 at Terpening and Son in Artesia, NM.
