Elmer Ray Stallings, 70, of 230 Lowes Lane, Hertford, NC, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025, in his home, where he was being cared for by family.
Ray was a lifelong resident of Perquimans County and was born on August 19, 1954, to the late Alvin Rountree Stallings and Henrietta Lane Stallings. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Lynne Stallings, a brother, Alvin Leon Stallings, and by his loving canine friend, Beethoven.
A lifelong farmer, he was a talented welder, an avid gardener, and was known in the community for how frequently he made sausage. He had a special love for many animals but especially his chickens.
Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Theresa Cartwright Stallings; two daughters, Dawn S. Blowe (Christian Brown) of Elizabeth City and Ashley S. Nixon (Steven) of Belvidere; a brother, Philip Stallings (Kelly) of Hertford; three granddaughters, Whitney E. Blowe (Tyler Chappell), Caroline G. Blowe, and Emilee R. Blowe; a great-granddaughter, Ainsley R. Chappell; three “granddogs” Dixie, Charlie Cate, and Bentley; and a “great-granddog” Millie Mae; a niece, Nickey Powell (Tony); and a nephew, Eric Stallings. Ray leaves behind a wide circle of friends to cherish his memory.
The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by Albemarle Hospice during Ray’s final days.
A gathering for family and friends will be held Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. All other times, friends are invited to visit the family at the residence. A private inurnment will be held in the Stallings Family Cemetery on Fred Stallings Lane in the Sandy Cross community.
