C.Z. Boyer & Sons Funeral Home - Bonne Terre ChapelIt is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ray William Vines, who left this world peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the age of 87. Born on Tuesday, October 4, 1938, he was the son of the late Charles and Ethel (Hedrick) Vines.
After retiring as a mechanic at American Can Company, Ray devoted even more of his time to the things he loved most.
Ray was a hardworking man who rarely sat still, always finding purpose in the work of his hands and the care of his home. A skilled carpenter and woodworker, he took great pride in building the house where he lived for nearly 50 years. Over the years, he crafted countless pieces of furniture, shelves, toys, a grandfather clock, and rocking horses, each made with care and meant to last.
He had a deep love for creating and working with nature. He enjoyed carving, tending to his garden, and always had a project in progress. He was also a beekeeper, raised worms and chickens, and took pride in making his own homemade wine.
When he wasn’t busy working, Ray could often be found relaxing while listening to the St. Louis Cardinals games. He especially cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren, who brought him great joy.
Ray was a devoted member of Lebanon Baptist Church, where he was baptized in 2003.
He is survived by his beloved children, David (Delta) Vines, Vicki Yount and Daniel (Cheryl) Vines; grandchildren, Drew Vines, Nathan (Brittney) Yount, Kelly Gentry, Waylon Vines, and Cody (Kayla) Vines; great-grandchildren, Annabelle Yount and Elsie Yount; siblings, Bud (Lena) Vines, Joan Bailey, and Judy (Alvin) Proffitt; along with several nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever cherish the lessons he imparted and the warmth he brought to their lives.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Vines; siblings, Jeff (Jean) Vines, Hayden (Mary Jo) Vines, Fred (Wilma) Vines, Faye (Tub) Sharp, and Charles (Marlene) Vines, Jr.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 11, 2026, 1:00 PM at Bolin Cemetery in Hutton Valley Missouri
Ray’s gentle spirit and humor will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
