Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lacy Funeral Home on Feb. 9, 2026.
Stephenville - Services for Raymond Edward "Ray" Carey, 87, an electrical and mechanical engineer will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Lacy Funeral Home Chapel with Father Hopkins officiating.

Raymond E. Carey, 87, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026. Born on September 7, 1938, and raised in St. Louis Missouri, Ray lived a long, full, and successful life marked by dedication to his family, his work, and his many passions.

Ray built a life rooted in hard work and curiosity. He spent his career as an electrical and mechanical engineer and retired from Halliburton in 2004. His work took him to many places, and throughout his life he made homes in Hobbs, New Mexico; Houston, Texas; and Arlington, Texas. After retirement, Ray and his beloved wife, Laura, embarked on fifteen years of life on the road, traveling the country in their motor home before settling in Stephenville, Texas, to be closer to their growing family.

Ray married the love of his life, Laura E. Carey, and together they shared 64 devoted years. He is survived by their daughters: Kathy Morgan of Stephenville, Colleen Dotson and fiancé Compton Creel of Mabank, and Eileen Seward and her husband Chris Seward of Keller.

He was a proud grandfather to Amanda and her husband Dallas Sims of Stephenville; Robert Morgan of Breckenridge; Brittany and her husband Trey Buening of Arlington; Christian Jones; and Nick Jones of Arlington. Ray also leaves behind five great grandchildren: Ryder Sims, Addison Sims, Emma Morgan, August Morgan, and Maverick Buening-all of whom brought him immense joy.

Ray was preceded in death by his Mother Catharine Ellen (Stephenson) Carey, his father and stepmother George and Margaret Carey and his son Charles Carey.

A man who enjoyed tinkering with computers, following the stock market, and reading the newspaper, Ray never stopped learning or exploring the world around him. He enjoyed camping, fishing and loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered for his sharp mind, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for his family.

Ray lived a rich and meaningful life and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
