I met Ray about a year ago working at Sunny View Care Center. Little did I know what an impact he would have on my life. Ray had such a kind heart and was a friend to everyone he met. He was always giving rootbeer barrels or peppermint patties to staff or other residents. He was so proud of his service in the Air Force and playing football for Iowa State. He was always willing to share his Iowa State yearbook with anyone willing to listen. I was always amazed at the stories he would tell and all the people he knew. I learned so much from Ray. He taught me how important is to get to know someone and learn their name. He always loved meeting new residents or staff and trying to remember their names. He had such a good memory. He taught me how to enjoy the simple things in life. He was always so excited to win Bingo or watch the cyclones win a game. My days were always brighter after visiting Ray. He always had a story to tell or an update on the latest basketball game score. Ray was one of those people who you might have known for just a short time, but feel like you've known them for years. Ray is already missed by so many. Your family continues to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Uncle Ray, I will always remember your visits when you would come back to Denison. Especially your Ford Galaxy Convertible. I will forever miss you and especially being your little "chop chop" That was the nickname that you gave me. It was and always will be an honor to be your niece.
Love,
Connie Christiansen

I had the privilege of meeting Ray and enjoying his zest for life when I was on the staff of the AHEPA 19202 Senior Apartments. His smile and greeting was for everyone he met!, His love of college and pro sports kept him excited and looking forward to the next big game. Ray was a good neighbor and friend to all-he will be missed.

I'd like to extend my sincere sympathy to Ray's family. He walked almost every day & he would always have a big smile & wave for me when I would toot my horn & wave to him. We only had a few conversations, mostly about musicians & singers & big bands & Ankeny. I always hoped to know him better. He was sincere & real & transparent & friendly & so musically knowledgeable. Pretty much all the musicians he liked, I liked. He was one of those people whom you know is a treasure, just as soon as you meet them. May God comfort you & give you peace & strength as you mourn his absence.

This thought is for my pal; a most interesting guy, a character of sorts and a very kind soul. It has been a long time since we have crossed paths but the memories are instantaneous and fond.

I'm so sorry about the death of your loved one. I sincerely hope that you will find comfort in knowing that there is a future for those we've lost in death.(1st Thessalonians 4:14).
