Raymond Cooper - USN - Retired July 28, 1938 to April 9, 2010 Raymond Cooper completed his tour of duty on Friday, April 9, 2010. He was born in New York City on July 28, 1938. He was preceded in death by his mother Lois Catherine, his father Lehman Scott and his sister Barbara Elaine. He enlisted in the Navy in 1955 at the age of 17 as a seaman recruit. His tenure in the Navy brought him to San Diego where he retired as a Master at Arms Chief in 1978. After his retirement, he became a civilian employee for the U.S. Postal Service retiring in 2002. Although Raymond never married he had a host of adopted sons, daughters and god children. Known as Coop to many of his friends, he will be remembered for his larger than life presence and the way he embraced his family and friends. He is survived by his niece Denise Upson of Virginia Beach, VA, his grandniece Kimberli Jennings of Richmond, Va, his brother inlaw and wife Ollie and Joan Upson of Virginia Beach, VA and innumerable family and friends. You will be dearly missed. There will be a burial at seat with Navy honors.

My family has been blessed to know Mr. Cooper. I can't believe he was brave enough to babysit me, my sister, and brother when we were young! I'll always remember his kind heart, humor, and smile. I'm glad my daughter got to know him.
