Fabian, Raymond J.
EAST GREENBUSH - Raymond J. Fabian Ph.D., 95, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by wife and daughters.
Raymond was born on a small dairy farm in Hampton, N.Y. The son of the late Michael Fabian and Anna (Ceijko) Fabian.
He attended grades 1-6 in a one-room school, with one teacher who taught all grades. The family moved to Granville, N.Y., where he graduated valedictorian from Granville High School. Raymond then graduated from Union College with a BS, married his favorite waitress from the DiBernardo Restaurant and was drafted into the U.S. Army. He returned from war and worked for Sterling Winthrop Toxicology and moved to East Greenbush. He earned his Ph.D., at Albany medical College and worked his entire career in Toxicology for Albany Medical College, Sterling Winthrop and NYS Dept. of Health.
He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, where he was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Vice President of the Parish Council and President of the Holy Names Society.
Ray loved cooking Sunday brunches and special dinners for his family. He also enjoyed fishing, casino visits, and vacations with his family and dear friends.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Rose Ann Fabian; daughters, Angela F. (Robert Dec.) Colvin, Debra (John) Signorelli, Susan (Raymond/Skip) Teator; Joanne (Michael) Connolly; three brothers, Chet (Mary Lib) Fabian, John (Dorothy Dec.) Fabian, Fran "Butch" (Mary) Fabian; two sisters, Pauline (Ralph Dec.) McKosky, Barbara (Kent Dec.) Sheeler. He was also predeceased by sister, Josephine Pedrampour.
He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Christina (Craig) Barry, Robert Colvin, Sherri (Adam) Gibson, Daniel (Faith) Colvin, R. Joseph (Christina) Teator, Michael (Junko) Connolly, Seth (Colleen) Teator, Nicole (Josh) Gregg, Matthew (Alex) Connolly, Jessie Signorelli, Mitchell (Ileana) Connolly; and 19 great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his calling hours, Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., in the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, followed by Mass at 12:00 p.m., at Church of St. Mary, 163 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, N.Y.
Contributions in Raymond's memory may be made to Kidney Foundation or St. Mary's Church.
