Raymond H. Folkmier, 89, of Grayling, MI passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 17, 2024 at Munson Healthcare - Grayling Hospital.
Ray was born in Detroit, MI to Ernest and Sarah (Cortright) Folkmier on September 29, 1935. Ray married Evelyn Andersen on August 30, 1958. Together they raised 4 children, Lori, Dave, Linda and Tom. Ray proudly served in the US Navy. He worked many years as a UPS truck driver before retiring in 1993. Ray loved playing softball up into his 80’s. He also organized and participated in a volleyball league in FL. He volunteered at the Grayling Historical Museum, donated time to work with Habitat for Humanity, and was a very involved member with Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church.
Ray had a great sense of humor and was a very fun-loving guy. He and his wife Evelyn had a winter home in Florida, and also traveled to many destinations around the United States, to several countries in Europe and on nearly 20 cruises. Ray loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed boating, playing cards with his friends, cooking for family gatherings and line dancing with his wife Evelyn. They made many life long friends in Grayling, including their many happy years as cottage owners on Lake Margrethe’s Danish Landing.
Ray will be dearly missed by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn Folkmier; Children: Lori (Tom) Zuteck of Sterling Heights, MI, Dave (Char) Folkmier of Fruitport, MI, Linda (Rick) Gualdoni of Lapeer, MI, and Tom (Cathy) Folkmier of Highland Twp, MI; Grandchildren: Danny (Becca), Kimberly, Melissa (Wade), Erin (Steven), Rachael (Tyler), Hannah and Nathan; Step-grandchildren: Tyler (Ellen), Chandler (Leah), Collin, Kyle (Bethany) and Gavin; Great-grandchildren: Sebastian and Marlowe; Sister-in-law, Judy Andersen; and many Nieces and Nephews.
Raymond is preceded in death by his Siblings: Marjory, Jean, and Ernest; Brother-in-law, Bill Andersen; and Sister-in-law Alice Andersen.
A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2024, 1:00 PM, at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Raymond can be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital or Samaritan's Purse - Hurricane Helene Relief or Hurricane Milton Relief.
