Raymond Newbrough

Raymond Edward “Ray” Newbrough, age 89, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025, at his home near Jewett.

Born September 28, 1936, in West Virginia he was a son of the late Hurshel Newbrough and Alice Lindsey Newbrough. Raymond worked for Anderson’s Chevy Garage in Shinnston, WV before moving to Harrison County in 1964 to work in the coal mines. He worked for Y&O Coal for 24 years.

Ray was a member of the Jewett Sportsman’s Club and had served as a trustee. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his loving family.

Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Eileen Schrader Newbrough, whom he married on June 15, 1957; children Sue (Rick) Wright of Jewett, Tam ( “Flip”) Best of Cadiz, Lisa (Roy) Smith of Cadiz, Kenny (Rhonda) Newbrough of Jewett, grandchildren Missy, Andy, Kyle, Steve, Amanda, Cody, Alison, Ethan and Zac; a sister Polly Newbrough, as well as numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law Ed and Robin Newbrough, a granddaughter Julie Newbrough, two brothers and a sister.

Services will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at noon in Koch Funeral Home, 101 W Main St, Scio with Pastor Mark Statler officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Jewett. Friends may call two hours prior to the service from 10 am – 12 pm.
