Ray was born on June 13th, 1941 and passed away on
April 7th, 2025 at the age of 83Raymond J. Petermeyer, age 83 of Carlyle, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in O'Fallon, Illinois on Monday, April 7, 2025.
Mr. Petermeyer was born in Breese, Illinois on June 13, 1941, a son of the late August J. and Leona A. (Pollmann) Petermeyer. Ray was a hardworking and devoted man who spent much of his career at Granite City Steel. A proud veteran, Mr. Petermeyer served honorably in the United States Army and continued his commitment to service as a member of Beckemeyer American Legion, Post 1227. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In his free time, Ray enjoyed the simple pleasures of life-he had a passion for woodworking, a green thumb in the garden, and a love for fishing.
Mr. Petermeyer is survived by his children, Brian A. Petermeyer and wife Angela of Sedalia, Colorado and Tina M. Binger and husband Kevin of Carlyle, Illinois; his grandchildren, Amber Coleman and husband Eddie, Kara Cox and husband Lorne, Adam Binger and significant other Abigail, and Brent Petermeyer; his great grandchildren, Baileigh Binger, Liam Cox, and Cash Coleman; his siblings, Richard Petermeyer and wife Marabeth, Ralph Petermeyer and wife Ethel, Betty Koopmann and husband Leonard, and Rita Petermeyer; a sister-in-law, Carol Petermeyer; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Petermeyer; and a sister, Mary Louise "Sis" Wilke and her husband Norbert.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton Street, Carlyle, IL 62231. Interment will be held at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Beckemeyer at a later date.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Petermeyer are suggested to the American Cancer Society and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home.
