Obituary
Mr. Raymond Columbus Quinn, 91, a lifelong resident of the New Town Community, passed away May 27, 2022, at the Oaks Senior Center with his daughter Donna by his side and surrounded by his loving family.
Raymond was born and raised in the Audubon community in Gordon County, GA on December 14, 1930. He was the son of the late George (Lum) Columbus Quinn and Edna Earl Kelly Quinn. He was a life-long farmer and worked for over 40 years as a contractor and craftsman.
His most accomplished construction projects were the remodel of the Antioch Baptist Church, building of the Amakanata home of the late Ford and Margie Davis as well as reconstruction of the Worchester House, the Log Tavern, and Court House buildings at the New Echota Historic Site. He was not only a builder of buildings but a builder of Christian character touching many people through his testimony, strong faith singing and witness about his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was a humble man who has truly left a legacy of this Christian faith throughout his family and community. He also worked as a farmer helping to support his family by share cropping through the great depression and for over 50 years raising cattle and chickens on his farm in the New Town Community. This was hard work but one of the main pleasures of his life. He loved the land that the Lord blessed him with. The love of his life was his wife, Katherine Swanson Quinn to whom he was married for 69 years. He loved and was incredibly proud of his only daughter and her husband and his two grandchildren. His five great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. They were such a bright light in his incredible life, and he left an indelible mark upon their lives.
He was a member of the 1950 graduating class of Red Bud High School and served in the United States Navy. Raymond was a Free and Accepted Mason. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and served as the Choir Director, and an Adult Sunday School Teacher. Through the course of his Christian service Raymond was also a member of the New Town Baptist, Evergreen Baptist Church, Salem Baptist and Heritage Baptist Churches.
He was proceeded in death by not only his parents, but his father and mother-in-law, James Lee (Jim) and Nancy Jane Gilbert Swanson. His sister Louise Quinn Greeson, and brother David Quinn. Infant great-grandchildren, Bryson William Logan and Rydlee Marybeth Logan.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Katherine Swanson Quinn, daughter Donna Ree Padgett and her husband Tony Padgett; one grandson, Jeremy Daniel Logan and his wife Brooke and one granddaughter, Sarah Lauren Davis and her husband Josh; and five great-grandchildren Braylin Wright Logan, Brylee Fate Logan, Aden Tate Davis, Hazel Quinlee Davis and Lilly Jane Davis. One sister Morene Quinn Poarch and one brother, Larry Quinn and his wife Kay, nephews, nieces and other relatives also survive.
