Ms. Rebecca Arrington,69,of Littleton, NC and formerly of
Rocky Mount, NC, transitioned on March 27, 2024.
Rebecca (Sallie) Arrington, 69, of
Rocky Mount, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on March 27, 2024, in the arms of her beloved children, Natansa Minor and Maurice Grant.
Rebecca is survived by her daughter Natansa Minor; her sons, Monsello Arrington, Maurice Grant, Babatunde Oyewole; and her former husband Jokojaiye Durojaiye Oyewole.
Rebecca was born on February 1, 1955, to Walter Evans, Jr. and Pennie Mae Arrington. She grew up in Rocky Mount among her siblings, Garland Arrington (Bo), Henry Arrington (Smokey), Lorenzo Arrington (Lo), Geraldine Arrington, JC Arrington, Willie Mae Arrington (Bay-Bay), Charles Evans, Brenda Johnson and Pastor Gloria Farmer.
Rebecca was educated in Rocky Mount Public Schools. As a young adult, she moved her family to
Washington, D.C. She worked with the Office of Facilities at Montgomery Community College, in Rockville, Maryland, from where she retired in January, 2006.
She moved back to North Carolina, in 2008, to be closer to family and friends. Coming from a large family, Rebecca was always willing to help raise her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her home was filled with the laughter of her beloved grandchildren: Jibri Arrington, Chrisshawn Arrington, Jamal Soufiano, Jeremy Minor, Simeon and Simone OYEWOLE, Maurice Grant III, Malachi Grant, Mason Grant, Nahzir Soufiano, Apollo Soufiano and Aziel Soufiano.
Rebecca loved her house plants and playing cards. Spades, Tonk, you name it, she played it! She would even tell her grandkids to bring their money to the table as she taught them. She was also an excellent cook. Her home hosted many Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Her backyard barbecues were legendary, with many neighbors and family stopping by for a plate. Her potato salad recipe could have been patented for Piggly Wiggly, Safeway, and Giant grocery stores. Holidays and birthdays will not be the same without Grandma Rebecca Sallie around.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Marsha Elaine Arrington; her sisters: Willie Mae Arrington, Geraldine Wiggins, Reverend Gloria Jean Farmer, Brenda Johnson; her brother JC Arrington; nephew Lawrence Lee Branch (Bird); and a great-nephew Tyrell Arrington.
She was the beloved mother-in-law of Loretta Arrington, Eddie Minor, and Samantha Oyewole. She was also sister-in-law to Joan Arrington, Patricia Arrington, Ella Arrington, Diane Melton, Valerie Evans, and Norman Wiggins, Dayo Oyewole, Emmanuel and Lola Oyewole, Shola and Amy Oyewole.
She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews to include: Erica Ray Melton, Lakeitha Boone, Jahmaine Powell, Reginald Levon Arrington, Lorenzo Donell Arrington, Angelica Latrice Arrington, Tracy Brown, Leslie Carey, Brad Evans, and Melanie
Evans. Rebecca rejoins her dear friends Janette Fogle Jones and Dorothy Dixon in eternal peace. She leaves behind many other devoted friends and family, too numerous to mention. As a child of our Almighty God, we find comfort in knowing she has shed her earthly existence and is now at home with the Lord.
