Rebecca Baker Frazier was born on August 2, 1937 in
Midway, Georgia to John Simon Baker and Maggie Lee Mazone Baker: She passed away peacefully at her home in Midway on September 17, 2025 surrounded by family. Her husband, parents, four sisters (Josephine, Ruth [her twin], Margaret, Laucenia), and one brother (Joseph "Joe") preceded her in death.
Rebecca received her education in Liberty County, graduating from Liberty County High School in 1956. She became a member of Beach Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend W. C. Shipman, where she participated in youth church programs until completing high school and relocating to Brooklyn, New York.
During her teenage years, Rebecca worked at several local businesses in the Midway area, including Ida Mae and Joe's Truck Stop and Cherokee Restaurant (now Captain Joe's). She also trained as a beautician under Mrs. Bertha Prichard of Midway and subsequently held a position at Sea Pack Seafood Company in Brunswick, Georgia after her high school graduation.
On April 14, 1960, Rebecca married Jonathan Frazier in a ceremony officiated by Reverend E.
A. Denegal of Savannah, Georgia. Following their marriage, they moved to Brooklyn where Rebecca completed cosmetology school and became a licensed beautician. She established a successful business and earned recognition for her proficiency in cosmetology.
After more than forty years of residence in New York, Rebecca and Jonathan relocated back to Midway where they remained married until Jonathan's death in 2018. Upon returning to Liberty County, the couple rebuilt their ties with the community, rejoining Beach Hill Missionary Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove AME, and Rebecca affiliated with Eastern Star Chapter #336. She continued her career as a beautician, serving clients at her in-home beauty salon, "My Lady."
