Rebecca Frey Obituary

REBECCA JOYCE FREY

September 7, 1952 April 9, 2024

Bakersfield Rebecca Joyce Frey, 71, went home to her Savior on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. Rebecca was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on September 7, 1952. She was the youngest of the seven children born to Virgie and Gilbert Joyner. Rebecca attended school in Wichita Falls and graduated in 1972.

In 1975, with her then-husband and three-year-old son in tow, Rebecca moved to Bakersfield, California. The following year, they would add a daughter to their family. When her children were small, Rebecca was active in women's ministries at church, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday school. Later, after retiring from the Kern High School District, she enjoyed volunteering in her youngest granddaughter's classroom.

Rebecca was immensely talented. Whether drawing, sewing, crocheting, or gardening, she would spend countless hours making her projects her special-kind-of-perfect. She loved nature, especially butterflies, hummingbirds, roses, and camellias. Many hours were passed working in her yard and marveling at the beauty of creation.

During her nearly 50 years in Bakersfield, Rebecca made many close and lasting friendships. The family wishes to thank Karen Hargis and Susan Stussy for their friendship, kindness, and love. We also want to thank Lori Upshaw and Stephanie Rincon for the care and compassion they showed Rebecca during her final years.

In 1996 Rebecca met Larry at a Kern County Cattle Women's function at the Tracy Ranch and in 2001 they tied the knot in Las Vegas.

Rebecca was predeceased by her son, Jared; parents, Virgie and Gilbert; brother, David; and sisters: Carla Jean, Rachel, and Mary. She is survived by her husband, Larry; daughter Sarah (Matt); grandchildren: Brent, Cooper, Taylor, and Katie; and sisters: Sharon (Jim) and Naomi.

Rebecca was a beautiful woman with a kind heart and a great sense of humor. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Though she will be missed greatly on this earth, we know we will meet again in Heaven.

Services will be held at Liberty Christian Center, 8801 S. H Street, on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.

The first time I saw Rebecca was when our Mother came home from the hospital and placed her in the bassinet. I was 4 years old I looked at her and said take her back. I am so glad they didn't, she became my best friend. Through the years we had so much fun and laughter when we were together. Rebecca loved the Lord, I could ask her anything about where to find a certain scripture and she knew exactly where it was. When I was having a bad day i could call her and she would pray for me about what ever it was. The last time I talked to her was a few weeks ago. She called me and told me she felt the Lord wanted her to call me and pray for my family. While we were praying she called each one of my children by name and grandchildren. After she prayed she sang a Beautiful Hym, when she finished she told me God told her to call me and she said I love you and said goodbye . I feel at that time she was saying her last goodbye to me on this earth. I know when I see her again it will be in her heavenly home where we will never have to say goodbye again. She will always be in my heart.
