Rebecca Jane (Hook) Lombard went to be with her heavenly father on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024. She was born to Erma Marie (Roberts) Hook and John Peter Hook II on June 4, 1949, in San Marcos, Texas. She always proudly said that she was "born and raised on the courthouse square" in San Marcos.
Beckie graduated from San Marcos High School in 1967. She married Tommy Carl Lombard on Dec. 31, 1968, at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in San Marcos. Beckie followed Tommy to Portsmouth, Virginia, where he was stationed with the U.S. Navy. Their only child, Wendy Jo-Ann, was born there on Feb. 3, 1971.
They began their life in Spring, Texas, where Beckie worked as a medical assistant for a pediatrician's office and volunteered with the Spring Volunteer Fire Department and her daughter's PTO. When she wasn't at work, she could be found organizing the next school festival and driving the big tanker truck on fire calls.
In the 1980s, the family of 3 packed up and moved to Seguin. While in Seguin, Beckie began painting arts and crafts as a business. She also worked at Texas Craft Works where she sold her creations and helped others sell theirs.
Every Sunday was spent back in San Marcos with family attending the same church that she was baptized and married in years earlier. She was on the fellowship committee and assisted with many meals at the church. Beckie was also a part of the fundraisers to build a new church and helped break ground on the existing site of the church today.
Beckie's home was always one of the homes that family gathered for holidays and special occasions. She was a wonderful cook and a great hostess. Her family was her life and she later moved to Stockdale to be closer to them. Rebecca then happily became the personal chauffeur for her grandsons and their biggest cheer leader. She proudly attended every baseball, soccer, and football game until she no longer was able to.
Rebecca was many things to many people. She was a daughter, dear friend, sister, wife, and cousin. She was lovingly called Aunt Beckie and Beckie Jane but she was the most proud of being Mom, Gram, and Great Gram.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Erma Marie Marbach; fathers John Peter Hook II and Adolph Robert "Bob" Marbach; and siblings Diane (Marbach) Schmidt and Kevin Marbach.
Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Wendy Grant and husband Jason; grandsons Thad Underwood and fiancé Morgan Brysch, and Benjamin Grant; great-granddaughter Lynnox Underwood; sister Malinda Forshage; siblings Susan (Marbach) Pool and David Marbach; brother-in-law Bill Schmidt; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m., in First Baptist Church Stockdale.
