Rebecca Lynn Martin, lovingly known as Becky, age 47 years, of Phillipsburg, NJ passed away tragically in an automobile accident on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Monroe County, PA. Born on June 26, 1977, in Hackettstown, NJ, she was the daughter of Ronald R. and Barbara A. (Cheesman) Martin. She grew up in Annandale, NJ, but had lived in Phillipsburg, NJ since 2008.
Becky’s life journey was marked by her extensive education and career in the culinary arts. She graduated from North Hunterdon Regional High School in 1995 and further pursued her passion by earning an associate's degree in hotel and restaurant management from Raritan Valley Community College. Her devotion to her craft led her to train abroad in France, where she acquired firsthand knowledge of French cuisine, pastry arts, and food culture. This foundation enabled her to thrive as the Executive Campus Pastry Chef at Merck World Headquarters, NJ from 1997 to 2002. She then took on the role of Chef Manager at Johnson & Johnson World Headquarters, NJ from 2002 to 2007. However, it was in the private school sector where she truly found her passion. As Food Service Director at the Purnell School in Pottersville, NJ from 2007 to 2023, and later as Executive Chef at Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, PA from 2023 to the present, she touched the lives of many with her personality and cooking ability. Her culinary expertise supported the dining experience of over 900 students and 200 employees, and she was beloved by all at Moravian.
Becky's personality shone brightly through her artistic flair, which was profoundly evident in her cooking and baking. Family, friends, and colleagues often remarked on her infectious smile and her ability to uplift any situation. She is remembered as caring, the best-gift-giver, and admired for her toughness and resilience in life.
Becky is survived by her devoted parents, Ronald R. and Barbara A. (Cheesman) Martin, of Delaware Township, NJ; her brother and sister-in-law, Ronald Martin Jr. and his wife Valerie, of Palos Park, IL; her brother, Jerrit Martin, of Milford, NJ; her beloved niece and nephew, Madison Martin and Ronald Martin III; her treasured bulldog and bulldog mixes, Lucy, Rosie, and Winnie; and her husband, John "Dan" Peifly.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, followed by a family eulogy service at 2:00 PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, located at 147 Main St., Flemington, NJ 08822. Interment will be conducted privately.
