Rebecca's family:

I'm a junior linguistics major at Northwestern, and I had several classes with Rebecca. I can't express how sorry I am for the awful, awful pain you're enduring; no one should outlive a child.

When someone close to me died, I discovered that I relished hearing stories about him. I loved every mundane detail about his life that I could convince people to tell me. So here are a few things I remember about your daughter:

-She always walked around campus with headphones on. When I passed her, she wouldn't notice me until I physically planted myself in front of her. Then she'd look up, smile, and wave hello.

-She was mercilessly funny. I took a few courses in the German department (though none with her), and sometimes we'd talk about the crazy/weird things that went on in those classes. She really loved German and everything about it, and I admired that.

-She was kind. When I was having trouble with a topic in this one linguistics class, she showed me how to do it and then insisted that I try myself. She wouldn't leave until she was satisfied I understood everything.

I'm glad I was lucky enough to know Rebecca, and I think of her often. I wish you the strength and courage to get through this.

Janice and Elliot - Through the delightful friendship that our daughters shared, my husband and I learned of Rebecca's amazing brilliance, wit, and artistic vision. Larry and I are heartbroken for your family. Words can sound hollow in the face of such profound loss, but know that our deepest prayers are sent to you.
