Rebecca Vial Obituary

Rebecca Ann Vial

Born: June 3, 1941 | Died: November 15, 2025

Rebecca Ann Roth Vial

Rebecca Ann Roth Vial, 84, passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 3, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Rebecca was a devoted wife to Charles L. Vial for 44 years and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She and Charlie enjoyed a large, blended family and loved all their children equally. Rebecca is survived by her husband, seven children, 22 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Blanche Roth, and sons William (Billy) Bigby and Tod Bigby.

Rebecca retired from the National Park Service, serving as an interpretive ranger at Great Smoky Mountains National Park and working in parks across the country. She cherished her time at Mammoth Cave and loved the history and beauty of the Smokies, where she and Charles made their home in Maryville, TN.

The family will be forever grateful for all the care and support selflessly given by our close family friend, Susan Altmansberger and the care provided by her medical team, especially the caring and generous team at SunCrest Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held later in Jacksonville, Florida, with ashes spread along the St. Johns River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Park Foundation.
