MUNCIE – Rebecca Jean Vickery, 78, passed peacefully from this life into her forever home with Jesus on Tuesday afternoon, October 7, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
"Becky" was born on March 7, 1947 in Zanesville, Ohio. She was the firstborn of Charles C. and Geraldine (Riggs) Grannon of Roseville, Ohio where she was raised with her younger brother David and graduated from Roseville High School in 1965. She attended Bethesda School of Nursing in Zanesville, OH and graduated with her R.N. Degree in 1968.
Rebecca began her nursing career at St. Ann's Hospital, Columbus, OH. She also worked for Fairfield County Memorial Hospital, Lancaster, OH. Lancaster was where she met the love of her life, Philip H. Vickery. The 2 were introduced by his daughter "Micki." They were married on September 12, 1970. The couple honeymooned in New York where over the years, Becky shared many stories of their adventures there such as visiting Niagara Falls, taking in the musical, "The Sound Of Music, and Phil's driving in the New York traffic. The adventures continued over the years after being blessed with three more daughters, Jennifer, Amy, and Betsy. The couple moved to Parker, Indiana in 1979 with Phil's job at Anchor Hocking. Becky began working at Randolph County Hospital in Winchester for several years then switched to long-term care where she served as DON at a couple of facilities. She spent the last of her career at and retired from Ball Memorial Hospital in 2012. She touched the lives of many of her patients over the years with her kindness and compassion. She was a true patient advocate.
She was a member of Union Chapel Church, where she participated in Wednesday morning ladies Bible study. She loved packing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child when the ladies would do it as a group each year. She loved to cook and bake and would often take meals to friends when they were sick or just needed help. Her sense of humor, laugh, and smile were infectious. She was such an encourager and could lift your spirits just by being in the room with her. She was an exceptionally talented piano player, loved traveling, entertaining, and hosting parties. Her daughters and their families were her greatest joy. Her most cherished title was "Grandma" and she loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are four daughters, Mischele Jenkins (husband, Ken) of Kemp, TX, Jennifer Swingley (husband, Scott) of Muncie, Amy Moulton (husband, Ben) of Yorktown and Elizabeth Clarke of Colorado; eight grandchildren, Shannon Nichols (Dennis), Rachael Rogers (Garry), Sullivan Swingley (Katie), Reagan, Ryan, and Audrey Clarke, Natalie and Jenna Moulton, and two great-grandchildren, Hunter Nichols and Shane Rogers; one brother, David R. Grannon (Paula) of Roseville, OH; niece and nephew, Amy and Billy Rosser (Misty); and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 31 years, Philip H. Vickery on January 29, 2002.
