Red Foley

God Bless you Red!

To The Foley Family: I just ran across the obit of Red's death & wasn't aware he had died. My father, William Umstead, was Asst. Managing Editor of the N.Y. News & later became Managing Editor. We moved to N.Y. in 1969 and I met Bill Gallo, (another Sports Writer), and he drew me a picture of one of the N.Y. Mets. My father died in 1995 from a heart attack & I currently live in Minneapolis, MN. Prior to coming to Minnesota, I was an umpire for recreation and high school games in White Plains, N.Y.
I want to extend my sympathies to all of you but I wish I would have met Red.

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Rest in peace Red. You will be missed dearly.

I knew Red Foley as a child and teen, as my late father, Milton Hacker, worked at the Daily News. May Red rest in peace and may God bring comfort to the loved ones he left behind.

A childhood friend. Will miss his cigars and quips and baseball inside info.
