Funeral services for Reece Three Legs, 26, of Ft. Yates, North Dakota, will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 20, 2026, at the AJ Agard Multipurpose Building in Ft. Yates. Burial will be in the St. Elizabeth Cemetery near Wakpala under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Reece passed away, Thursday, March 12, 2026, in New Town, North Dakota.
Reece Three Legs, 26, was born on September 11, 1999, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Sylvia Howard and Gordon Three Legs. He grew up in the Fort Yates area, where he attended elementary school before going on to attend Standing Rock High School.
Reece was known for his talent on the basketball court. Standing at 6'5", he was a standout player and a leading rebounder for the Standing Rock High School basketball team. His team advanced to the regional tournament during his senior year. Reece also earned recognition at the Lakota Nation Invitational, being named to the All-Tournament Team for two consecutive years. His love for the game continued into adulthood, where he enjoyed playing in independent basketball leagues with his friends and cousins and spending time at open gym, always ready to play ball.
Outside of basketball, Reece was known for his big presence and even bigger heart. Though he was a large man, he carried a soft, kind spirit and had a way of making friends wherever he went. He loved spending time with family and especially looked forward to the Fourth of July each year. It was his favorite holiday, often bringing everyone together for large family gatherings where he proudly took on the role of grill master and the one in charge of the fireworks shows.
Reece was the proud father of two sons, Stetson and Easton, whom he shared with Danae Hoisington.
He is survived by his parents, Sylvia Howard and Gordon Three Legs; his sister, Salena; his beloved sons, Stetson and Easton; his special friend, Sierra Grady; his nephews, Ilias and Idris; his uncle, Glenn Three Legs; his grandmothers, Sharon Many Horses, Ginny Walking Bull, and Michelle Kills Crow DeWolfe; his auntie mama, Lorna Howard; his great grandmother, Mary DeWolfe; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
Reece was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lavina and Wilbur Three Legs, maternal grandfather, Richard Howard, his step grandfather Waylon Many Horses, his grandmother Carol Walking Bull, and his uncle Telson Many Horses.
Reece will be remembered for his love of basketball, his laughter, his generosity, and the way he brought people together. His presence was larger than life, and his kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
