Reed Childers, 58, of Ranger, departed this life on Friday, January 31st, following an illness at a local hospital.
Franklin Reed Childers was born on September 2, 1966 in Calhoun, Ga to the late Charles and Ruth Childers. He was the youngest of 10 and the 9th boy. He grew up in Fairmount, Ga and attended Fairmount schools. He married the love of his life, Denise, on September 1, 1990 and started a beautiful life.
Reed never met a stranger and loved a good conversation. When he walked in a room, he had a presence that was known and the love he felt exhibited all over him. He was a kind soul with a feisty side and loved to aggravate anyone he could.
Reed loved to sing gospel music and could be found singing new lyrics to 100 year old hymnals most every day.
He raised 4 daughters and was the epitome of a girl dad. He never wavered from an example of how a godly man should lead a household and how to love unconditionally through the good and bad times.
There was nothing he was prouder of than being a grandfather. Reed was the best “Poppy” to his grandchildren and loved them more than life itself. When he got hurt and was unable to work at a job, he made it his mission to help keep the grandbabies and he was the best babysitter around.
Reed is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ruth Childers, sister, Shirley Henson, brothers, Lamar Childers & Randall Childers. In-laws, Curtis and Betty Cronan.
Reed is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Denise Childers, daughters Amber (Trey) Steele, Kellie (Tim) Tidwell, Kala (Hunter) Cronan, and Kieanna (Brandon) Cummings and his bonus daughter, Holly (Josh) Ellis. His grandchildren, Elizabeth, Chevy, Emory, Noah, Oaklynn, and Nash. Brothers, Ed Childers, Clint (Vera) Childers, Ralph (Mamie) Childers, Doug (Sheila) Childers, Keith (Eddie) Childers, and Mark Childers. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, beginning at 5:00 PM from Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 3:00 PM, from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Brandon Herndon, Rev. Duane Smith, and Rev. Chris Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers are Brandon Cummings, Hunter Cronan, Tim Tidwell, Trey Steele, Josh Ellis, and Dylan Cronan.
