Reed Kitson Patterson

Reed Kitson Patterson, age 75, of Addison, New York, passed away in Addison on Sunday, April 23, 2023 after a brief illness. He was born on May 1, 1947 in Ithaca, New York to Maurice (Pat) and Ferne (Kitson) Patterson.
Reed graduated from Interlaken Central School in 1965. He attended Alfred University and SUNY at Oswego, graduating with a Bachelor's degree in 1970. He received his Masters degree from Ball State University in Indiana in 1971. He received a Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration from Brockport State College in 1991.
Reed was a middle school pre-vocational education teacher in industrial and graphic arts where he taught ing, carpentry, and photography for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Fairport, NY for 21 years. He was assistant principal at Geneva Middle School from 1993-1996, and Owego Free Academy High School from 1996-1999, prior to moving to Addison. In 1999 he became the Addison Central School Junior-Senior High School Principal. In 2001, he was a recipient of the Twin Tiers Outstanding Educator Award.
Reed was a communicant of the Church of the Redeemer, a brother in the Addison Union Mason Lodge #118, and was involved in many charitable works within the community.
Reed enjoyed antiques, refinishing furniture, and photography. Reed will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit and sense of humor.
Reed is survived by his daughter, Cristiane French; 3 grandchildren, Callie, Chase, and Carly French; two sisters: Janet Patterson Vavasour of Charlton, NY, Muriel Patterson Huttenbach of Atlanta, GA; nieces and nephews: Kerry Vavasour Beck, Daniel Vavasour, Pat Huttenbach, Eric Huttenbach, Marisa Crawford, Laura Lee Sidford; and twelve grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Reed was predeceased by his wife, Lori Joy Patterson, in 2022; and his brother-in- law, John Vavasour in 2006.
A memorial and Masonic service will be held at the Church of the Redeemer, 1 Wombaugh Square, Addison, NY 14801 on May 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Reeds name may be sent to a cancer organization of your choice, Paradise Gardens Animal Shelter, the Addison Union Masonic Lodge #118, or Church of the Redeemer. Arrangements are entrusted to Flint Funeral Home, Addison.
