Regina "Genie" May Scott

February 15, 1942 - January 16, 2026

Regina May Scott, 83, of Gardiner, NY, daughter of Arline and Wesley Wilson (and Bernard Clay), passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2026, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Born on February 15, 1942, at Boston City Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, Regina lived in the city for several years before moving to a farm in North Carolina, eventually settling in Vista, California. There she met, fell in love with, and soon married Richard Scott, a U.S. Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Regina had a great love of cooking, especially southwestern and Mexican cuisine, having learned her craft as a teenager while working at Ms. Rosa's El Ranchito Café in Rancho Santa Fe, California. In her youth, she enjoyed roller skating and going to drive-in movies with her husband, watching favorite television

shows like Perry Mason, Bonanza, and Mission: Impossible. She loved to crochet, played Bingo with her daughter, and read Nora Roberts novels.

Regina adored her children and grandchildren, cheering them on in good times, giving them comfort and support in bad times, all while maintaining a cheerful and uplifting spirit. She was an incredibly nurturing, thoughtful, and generous person. Regina loved animals and was especially fond of owls. Over the years,

she amassed a large collection of owl figurines and paintings. She also cherished angels and was a lifelong proud and faithful Catholic.

Regina was a member, volunteer, and office worker at St. Charles Borromeo in Gardiner, NY, where her grandson was an usher and her granddaughter was an altar server. She held many and varied jobs over the course of her life, as well, most

significantly at New England Laminate Company (NELCO) in Walden, NY, where for ten years she worked on the lay-up team helping to fabricate copper laminates for the manufacture of integrated circuit boards.

She worked long hours and overnights while maintaining her household and caring for her husband and children.

Regina overcame many physical challenges, especially in her later years, but she rarely missed an opportunity to show up for her family and reach out to friends and loved ones with a kind word and a sincere desire to be helpful and comforting. She was instantly beloved by everyone she met. Generous and selfless, she always wanted to feed everyone and make everyone feel welcome, safe, and at home. She was soft-spoken and gentle, but she was also fiercely protective of her children.

Though easy to underestimate, Regina was capable of rising to every occasion, no matter how challenging, lifting her family's spirits when times were tough and being their calm refuge from life's storms. Those who knew her, even only briefly, came to cherish her sweet and cheerful disposition.

Even as her health declined in recent years, she remained determined to stay in her family's lives, to be part of every important event, to provide a soft shoulder and warm embrace, and to encourage everyone to reflect her kindness, strength,

grace, and faith. It got harder and harder for her to fight this fight, and if she had her way, she would still be here with us. However, she was so proud of her family, and she knew with all her heart that when this time eventually came, she would leave behind a literal legacy of warmth, devotion, and unwavering family bonds.

As heartbroken as her family is as they mourn the loss of her physical presence in their lives, they know with all their hearts that Regina will always be there with them to see them through life's struggles and sorrows, to celebrate the triumphs and share in their joy.

Regina is survived by her sons, Douglas and Michael; her daughter, Debora; her daughters-in-law, Nicole and Christine; and her grandchildren, Justin and Jessica.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard, her mother Arline, her father

Bernard, her stepfather Wesley, and her brother Bernard (Buddy).

On Saturday, January 24th at 10:00 am, there will be a memorial visitation at St. Charles Borromeo Church – 2212 US-44, Gardiner, NY 12525, with a Catholic Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM.

Interment of cremains will be at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery across the street from the church after the funeral mass, with a Celebration of Life reception to follow at the St. Charles Borromeo Hall adjacent to the cemetery.
