G. L. Brightharp & Sons announces the transition of Mr. Reginald S. Foushee who entered into rest November 4, 2025.
Reginald Schovell Foushee was born on July 19, 1949 in Kinston, NC. He was the first of three sons born to the late John Ernest and Geneva Brightharp Foushee.
At an early age Reginald was enrolled in elementary school with high expectations for success. It was apparent fairly early that Reginald was quite skillful and gifted as an artist. He exhibited considerable talent in drawing, painting, crafts and design.
In the spring of 1966, Reginald graduated from EE Smith Senior High School of Fayetteville, NC. During his adolescence, Reginald was exposed to instrumental music, including several years of piano lessons and the snare drum. He also received voice training in choral music instruction in the school's Glee Club. Reginald also enjoyed a number of cultural activities such as the New York's World Fair, trips to Washington, DC and the Smithsonian Institute.
Reginald chose to join First Baptist Church that his parents had chosen for the family upon their arrival to the Fayetteville area. As the grandson of a Baptist minister, the choice of church home was a very important decision in Reginald's life.
In the fall of 1967, Reginald made a vital choice to enroll in North Carolina A & T State University to pursue his college education. True to his interest and consistent with his proven talent, Reginald chose a major in Art and Design and Art Education. This decision would serve as a turning point in Reginald's life. By the end of Reginald's tenure at A & T State University, he met and married Erna Moore, a Morgan State University graduate from West Palm Beach, FL. The young couple would be blessed with a son, Reginald II. After graduation, Reginald and his new family soon moved back to Fayetteville, NC where Reginald began work as a State Probation Officer. Reginald is a long standing member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
The family's next move was to West Palm Beach, FL where Reginald was hired by the Xerox Corporation in a sales capacity. The family would be blessed with another addition, the birth of their daughter, Monique Bianca. Later, Reginald returned to his desire to work with students in an educational public school setting in South Carolina.
Unfortunately, in recent years, like many of our friends and relatives, Reginald had to face a number of health challenges. He was plagued with memory loss and cognitive changes. Recently, we lost our dear friend Reginald to dementia.
Those left to treasure his memory are his son, Reginald Foushee II; daughter, Monique Foushee-Starling (Vincent); grandchildren, Lauren Foushee-Starling and Mason Starling. He is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth (Jan) Foushee and Rommell (Charlene) Foushee; an uncle, Rev. George L. Brightharp; aunts, Vivian Nichols and Doris Brightharp-Blount; nephew, Brian Foushee; nephew, Erika Foushee; a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, November 10, 2025 at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church with the Rev. David Mason, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held from 1-4 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
