Reginald LeRoy "Butch" Rutty Jr.

Reginald LeRoy Rutty Jr., "Butch" to his friends and family was welcomed home by his loving wife, father, and sister on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Butch was born on December 22, 1941 to Edith Cutler and Reginald LeRoy Rutty. He was a long-time resident of Old Saybrook. He worked for the Town of Old Saybrook during the 1960's before becoming a self-employed commercial fisherman for the remainder of his life. He was predeceased by his father Reginald LeRoy Rutty, a sister Florence "Sis" Snyder, and his wife of 51 years April Swain Rutty. He leaves behind his mother, Edith Cutler Rutty of Westbrook: a daughter, Gloria Berner of Killingworth; a son, Butch Rutty and his wife Anita of Old Saybrook; four brothers: Elmer Rutty and his wife Caroline of Old Lyme, Rob Rutty and his wife Kim of Springfield, ME, Phil Rutty and his wife Deb of Old Saybrook, and Gary Rutty and his wife Tammie of Old Saybrook; a sister Bobbie Shaw of Old Lyme; and a sister-in-law Frances Swain of Holyoke, MA. Butch will be greatly missed by his three beloved grandsons, Ben Berner of Miami, FL and Ken and Kevin Rutty of Old Saybrook. The loss to his extended family and friends is immeasurable – especially to his aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He will also be greatly missed by Old Saybrook's commercial fishing community, where he was a fixture for the past 60 years. He was a loyal NY Yankee and Washington Redskins fan. Butch was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fresh water fishing, trapping, hunting, and all the great outdoors had to offer. He enjoyed training and showing his bench champion dog PR Rutty's Pepsi Light, and was a long time member of the Bluff Head Coon Club and the S-X Sportsman's Club of Ivoryton. On the other side of the Rainbow Bridge he was greeted by a lifetime of his four-legged friends including Bandit, Pooper, Driver, Lady, Monkey, Dolly, Babe, Pepsi , Princess, and many more. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Gloria. Family and friends will be invited to a celebration of Butch's life at a future date.
