Reginaldo R. Castillo, age 85, peacefully entered eternal rest on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in
Del Rio, Texas, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Affectionately known as "Güero" and "Ray," Reginaldo was the 10th of 11 siblings and a proud lifelong resident of Texas.
Reginaldo dedicated over 25 years of service to the Texas Highway Department, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dependable spirit. Outside of work, he found joy in traveling and spending time at the ranch-places where he felt most at peace.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria P. Castillo, and his siblings Sara C. Escobedo, Uvil Castillo, Horacio Castillo, Dolores & Victor Cepeda, Amalia & Juan Hernandez, Valdemar & Noemi Castillo, Elsira & Genaro Garza, Antolina Castillo, and Rogelio and Olga Castillo.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Maria C. Cardenas (Gerardo), Arturo Castillo (Elizabeth), and Norma C. Aguirre
His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Mercedes C. Sandhu (Jonathan), Gloriana Cardenas-Rodriguez (Daniel), Alejandra C. Rodriguez (Dylan), Samantha A. Novo (Andrew), Kayla Castillo, and Reginaldo Castillo, who is proudly serving in the United States Navy.
Reginaldo was blessed to meet all nine of his great-grandchildren, including a set of quadruplets, who lovingly remember him always asking for "the babies."
He is also survived by his brother, Rafael Castillo, sister-in-law, Josephina Castillo, and brother-in-law, Salvador Escobedo, including numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout their lives together, Reginaldo and Gloria opened their home and hearts to three children who became family in every way. Left to honor that loving bond are Ernesto Martinez Jr. (Misty), Michelle Martinez, and Tomas A. Martinez.
Reginaldo will be remembered for his gentle nature, his love for family, and the strength and kindness he carried through every season of life. His memory lives on in all who were blessed to know him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 2020 N. Bedell Ave.,
Del Rio, TxThe visitation continues on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 8:30 AM - 9:30 AM, at Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, followed by the mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 509 W Garza St,
Del Rio, Texas.
The interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 5144 Hwy 90 East,
Del Rio, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Arturo Castillo, Ruben Rodriguez, Ernesto Martinez, Tomas Martinez, Juan Hernandez, and Juan Gerardo Garza.
