Rochester, NH - Regine Michelle Chernauskas (Jeannie), a lifelong artist, cherished mother, grandmother and wife passed away peacefully on August 17, 2024, at the age of 80. She had been residing at Dover Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Dover, NH for the past several years due to many chronic health challenges.
Born in Bronx, NY on September 30, 1943, she was the daughter of George and Rica Trott. Jeannie began her artistic journey at Pratt Institute in NYC to pursue a degree in graphic arts. After leaving New York, Jeannie moved to Connecticut to start her career as an advertising graphic artist at the Town Crier newspaper in Fairfield, CT where she met her husband, Robert. She eventually left the newspaper advertising industry to spend more time with her family and to pursue her love of artistic expression. Jeannie relocated to Cape Cod in 1979 and spent 40 years using her artistic talent to create beautiful, handcrafted wood-burned, painted, and tile/stone pieces under her business name, The Worms Eye Workshop. Continuing her arts and craft business, she returned to Connecticut in the early 1990's until 2014, when she eventually retired in Rochester, NH with her husband and miniature Australian shepherd, Brandy.
Over the past few years at Dover Center for Health and Rehab, Jeannie enjoyed painting and making beaded jewelry for residents and staff.
Jeannie leaves behind her husband, Robert Chernauskas of Rochester, NH; her daughter Sherry Hansen of Greenland, NH, her son Les Chernauskas, and his wife, Laura Tenney of Westford, MA; and her four grandchildren, Emily Hansen, Katie Hansen, Alex Chernauskas, and Max Chernauskas.
Her artistry and unique spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew her. The family will be celebrating her life privately.
