Reid Drummond
September 26, 1948 - December 7, 2024
Santa Maria - Reid Drummond, 76, passed away peacefully at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, California, on December 7, 2024, surrounded by family.
Reid was born on September 26, 1948, in Burbank, California, to Robert Drummond and Mildred "Dollie" Holloway. As a young man, he joined the Air Force, where he served for several years before embarking on a career in engineering.
In his late 20s, Reid worked at the Madrid Deep Space Communications Complex, setting up satellite equipment. It was there that he met Felisa "Feli" Miranda, who worked there as a secretary. The two married on September 5, 1975, and welcomed their first child, David, in Spain. They later relocated to Barstow, California, where Reid began his 40-year career as an operations engineer at the Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex. Reid was highly respected for his expertise and mentorship, becoming a trusted figure in his field. During this time, the couple expanded their family, welcoming Laurence and Loretta. Despite the demands of his career, Reid remained deeply committed to his family, balancing his professional achievements with his role as a loving husband and father.
In 2015, Reid and Felisa moved to Santa Maria, California, to enjoy their retirement in a cooler climate. They quickly embraced the warmth of their new community, forming close friendships with neighbors and immersing themselves in new hobbies. Reid's interests were as varied as they were enthusiastic, including computers, aviation, mechanics, cycling, flying drones, watching comedy shows, and befriending neighborhood cats and dogs.
Reid was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Felisa, and son, Laurence. He is survived by his children, David and Loretta Drummond; his sister, Loretta Collet; and many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends in the U.S. and abroad.
Reid's legacy of kindness, dedication, and curiosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
