Renald Sliozberg, born on November 11, 1937, in Moscow, Russia, peacefully departed this life on November 1, 2025, just ten days shy of his 88th birthday. His journey took him from the intricate landscapes of the former Soviet Union to the United States in 2001, where he continued to forge a legacy that blended exceptional professional accomplishments with a profound personal love for family and nature.
Renald's career was distinguished and impactful. As a leading engineer at the All-Russian Research Institute of Exploration Geophysics, he was the author of numerous technological inventions and patents, significantly contributing to the mining and geological exploration industry. He was honored with the prestigious USSR Council of Ministers Prize and the VDNKh USSR medal, along with the USSR Inventor Badge and two medals recognizing his status as a Veteran of Labor. His work was not just a profession; it was a testament to his relentless pursuit of knowledge and innovation.
Beyond his professional accolades, Renald was a kind father and loving grandfather. His gentle spirit shone brightly, especially in the presence of his grandchildren, bringing them joy and cherished memories. He served as a Memory Keeper for his family, often sharing stories that connected generations, and never hesitating to provide support during difficult times. He was known for his honesty and openness, always available to listen to the troubles and problems of his loved ones.
Renald held a deep passion for music, appreciating both classical compositions and rock melodies. His love of poetry and nature provided him with inspiration and solace, while fishing with family became a favorite pastime that brought relaxation and a cherished connection to the outdoors. Each excursion was marked not just by the thrill of the catch, but by the togetherness it fostered amidst the tranquility of nature.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Liya Lipovich; his brother Gregory Sliozberg and sister-in-law Anna Sliozberg; his daughters Alla Vayner and Yelena Sliozberg, along with their respective spouses, Andrew Tsvaev and Ilya Povolotskiy. Renald's legacy also lives on through his grandchildren: Elizaveta Kipiani, Asya Tsavaeva, Leo Povolotskiy, and Sarah Povolotskiy, and great-granddaughter Nino Kipiani. These relationships were at the heart of his existence, grounding him in love and laughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bronya Feldman and Abram Sliozberg. Their memory, along with the values they instilled in him, undoubtedly influenced the wonderful man Renald became.
