Rennie Johnson Jr., 81, of Hope Mills, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 20, 2025.
Rennie, known for his vibrant and quick wit personality, was easy to get to know. Rennie could make people smile and feel at ease with a simple “hello”. Known also to his friends as “white eyes” during his younger years when he played sports. Rennie enjoyed the outdoors. Rennie had a love for all sports, but his favorite were softball and golf. When not playing sports, he enjoyed getting away and fishing. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family outside when he could.
Rennie began working at a young age to help his family. He went to work at Cape Fear Feed where he worked for 45 years until he retired.
Rennie was born on February 17, 1944, in Cumberland County to the late Rennie Johnson, Sr. and Louie Collins Johnson. He is preceded in death by a son, John Rudolph Johnson and brothers, Bennie Johnson and Ronnie Johnson.
Surviving to carry on his memories is his loving wife of 62 years, Sylvia Matthews Johnson of the home; his children, Tammy Brown of Shallotte, NC, Phillip (Debbie) Johnson of Fayetteville, NC, and Samantha (Lee) Smith of Boiling Springs, NC. He is survived by 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Jeanette Daniels of Supply, NC. Rennie will be greatly missed by his family, extended family and friends.
