Reuben Jones “Sonny Bear” Cesspooch, Jr., Suwarogomsuwini, age 64, of Neola, UT, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2023, at his home.
He was born July 12, 1958, in Roosevelt, UT, to Reuben Jones Cesspooch, Sr., and Madeleine Duncan.
Sonny Bear was a Ute Man who lived his life in this modern world. Those who knew him knew what he stood for. He was a kind and generous man. His generosity knew no bounds. One of his greatest deeds was donating one of his kidneys to his sister.
Sonny worked in many labor positions with the Ute Indian Tribe. He enjoyed working in his yard. At home, when he wasn’t working in the yard, he was indoors beading. His creativity was amazing. His specialty was floral designs.
In his earlier years he spent a lot of time with his uncle Clifford Duncan. Their travels took them near and far. They would participate in the annual Sundance, as well as other Native American ceremonies.
He is survived by his son, Isaac Brown, Arapaho, Wyoming; mother, Madeleine Duncan; sisters, Amy Joy Cesspooch, Neola, UT; Percell Cesspooch, Ft. Duchesne, UT; Amic (Chet) Ridley, Whiterocks, UT; and a brother, William E. “Bill” (Jennette) Weeks, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Reuben Cesspooch, Sr.; brother & sister, Scott & Bonnie Cesspooch; grandparents, Vera Shavanaux, Henry Cesspooch, Clara Chegup, and Ivan Duncan; and numerous aunts, uncles, and relatives.
Thank you to the following departments for their assistance: Emergency Management, Painted Horse, Building Rehab, and the Roosevelt Senior Villa.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Elizabeth’s Episcopal Church in Whiterocks. Following the service they will go to the Whiterocks Community Building for a final viewing and a meal.
