Glen Edward Owens began life eternal with his Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Glen was born February 4, 1947 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He was raised in Louisiana and accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 9 and was baptized in Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Crossroads, Louisiana.
An ordained Southern Baptist minister, Glen served churches in Texas, Louisiana and Georgia prior to moving to Florida in 1989 where he began his tenure as Assistant Executive Director of the Florida Baptist Convention. Glen retired from the convention in 2017 having also served as the Interim Executive Director and as a Regional Catalyst. During his time in Florida, Glen served more than 80 pastoral interims where he ministered to and guided some of Florida Baptists’ most significant churches during a time of transition providing wise counsel to their congregations. Most recently, Glen was serving as the Assistant Pastor of Senior Adults at North Jacksonville Baptist Church. In 2014, Glen was elected to the National Association of Church Business Administration’s Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to the field of church management.
Glen is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Susan Oakley Owens. A son, Kent Owens, a daughter, Kathleen Tompkins (Jamie), grandsons Jared Glen Tompkins and Judson Kyle Tompkins, a sister-in-law, Jane Washam (Darrell) and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 29 at 2:00 PM at North Jacksonville Baptist Church with family visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Dr. Herb Reavis, Pastor Josh Reavis, Pastor Chris Coram and Dr. John Sullivan, officiating. A private interment was held in Louisiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests, memorial gifts be made to the North Jacksonville Baptist Church Building Fund - 8531 N. Main St. - Jacksonville, FL 32218 or at www.njbc.org.
