It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rex Joel Doss Sr. on
October 26, 2024 after a very sudden decline in his health. Rex was 76 years of
age. He was born in Aberdeen, NC on November 6, 1947, the son of Robert
"Clinton" Doss and Marie Donathan.
Rex graduated from Craddock High School in Portsmouth, VA in 1966. He enlisted
in the United States Navy in 1966 and completed his training at the Naval Reserve
Manpower Center in Bainbridge, MD. Rex was then stationed in Long Beach, CA
and served valiant years on the USS Kitty Hawk and USS Kearsarge as an Airman
until 1970. During his military service Rex was awarded several Navy medals. He
worked many years in the welding industry with expertise skills in welding and
steel fabrication. Rex also worked at Scott Aviation in Monroe, NC as a Team
Leader. He relocated to Myrtle Beach in 2002 and finished up his career at Elvis
Welding in 2012.
Rex loved visiting and spending time with his daughter Hannah, son-in-law
William and granddaughter, Aubrey in Wingate, NC. Rex also enjoyed boating,
fishing, hunting and casual drives in his Chevrolet Corvette. Being in the woods
was his time to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of nature. Some of his special
memories included spending time at the LaFountain Hunting Camp in Northern
New York. Clarence, Rex, Craig and Jamie would tell stories of the nightly hunt
and enjoy a comfort dinner Lynne put together for them. In 2021 Rex and Lynne
moved go Conway. He loved his new home, was blessed to have great friends in
Cat Tail Bay and enjoyed Sunday gatherings with George Fincham and Gary
Rostron watching NASCAR.
His canine companions were dear to him. Maggy Mae has stayed behind with
Lynne, Junior is on a long walk with him now.
Rex was predeceased by his parents, Robert "Clinton" Doss and Marie Donathan,
sister Phyllis Doss, who he tremendously missed, and father-in-law, Gerald
LaFountain.
