Rex Garcia Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory - Princess Anne Chapel on Dec. 4, 2025.
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Rex Gaspar Garcia, 81 years old, on December 1st, 2025 surrounded by family in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was born on January 6th, 1944, in Manila, Philippines. He was the son of Aniceto and Basilisa Garcia (De Guzman) and brother of predeceased brother Rafael Garcia and predeceased by sister Beatriz Fernandez (Garcia).
Rex graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology, Class of 1964, earning a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering with a minor in Civil Engineering. After his graduation, he worked as an engineer for Luzon Cement in Luzon, Philippines and later as a draftsman for Stone and Webster Engineering Corp, Foster Wheeler Corp, and also for Ernst, Ernst Lissenden Land Development Co. in New Jersey.
Rex married his college sweetheart, Lucita Laraño, and later retired in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They have since celebrated 53 wonderful years of marriage in January 2025. Rex was a devoted husband, loving father, kind uncle and cousin, and a proud grandfather. He is survived through his family; his wife Lucita Garcia (Laraño); his son Richard Garcia and daughter Dorothy Carlisle (Garcia); his son-in-law Jason Carlisle; and his grandchildren Madelyn Carlisle and Dean Carlisle.
Rex was an ambitious entrepreneur ready to achieve success any way possible through hard work and determination. He was a business owner of Exxon and Manila Bread House with his wife. He was passionate about day trading, journaling, cooking, baking, and landscaping. He found joy in the beauty and pageantry of horse racing, possessed a keen eye for a horse's talent and potential, a passion that grew from his natural ability to spot a winning horse. Rex enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends because he adored them very much. He lived a remarkable life on his own terms, and he will forever be remembered for his strengths and perseverance, sense of humor, and kindhearted spirit. Rex's legacy lives on through his faith in God, his family, his resilience, and his wisdom. Knowing him has enriched our lives and he will be truly missed. We take comfort in knowing that Rex is now in the eternal embrace of the Lord, who "counts the stars and calls them all by name." Rex's spirit, like a star, shines on in the absolute and infinite understanding of God.
"He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!" (Psalm 147:4–5 NLT)
