Rhea J. DeWert

Rhea Joyce Steves DeWert was born November 17, 1932 to Everett and Gladys Steves in Painted Post NY. She died peacefully on December 25, 2024 at Seneca View Nursing Facility. She is now with her beloved husband Daren R. DeWert, who predeceased her February 5, 2005.
Rhea grew up on Dry Run Road in Painted Post NY. She had two sisters, Laura and Lavone and four brothers, William, Benjamin, Lester and Glenn. All have predeceased her. She fell in love and married Daren Raymond DeWert on November 24, 1949. They had four children. Two sons: Teron (Dollas Fuller) of Moneta VA, Keven (Lisa) DeWert of Westfield PA; and two daughters: Nancy (Michael) Dawson of Beaver Dams and Tammara (Steven) Caparulo of Statesville NC. She is preceded in death by her husband, son Keven and granddaughter Danielle Miller.
Daren and Rhea lived in various homes throughout the area and enjoyed the life of snowbirds for a number of years. As an adult Rhea returned to school earning her GED and then getting her LPN in 1981. She loved working for the local Hospice program until retiring in 1997. She was also a second degree Reiki practitioner and loved sharing the positive energy for healing.
Rhea was a long time member and Sunday School teacher at the Baptist Bible Church in Curtis NY and the Beaver Dams Community Church in Beaver Dams NY.
She is survived by: Teron (Dollas Fuller) DeWert, Nancy (Michael) Dawson, Tammara (Steven) Caparulo and daughter in-law Lisa (James Gauthier) DeWert; 12 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Phillips Funeral Home, 17 West Pulteney St., Corning, NY on December 31, 2024 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1:00 pm, with David Wakeman presiding. Internment will take place in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery in Painted Post.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to the Alzheimer's Association or the Humane Society of Schuyler County.
