Richard Nielsen Obituary

Richard Nielsen, 86, of Broken Bow, Neb., passed away Nov. 27, 2025, at Brookestone View in Broken Bow.

Richard Lee Nielsen was born July 5, 1939, in Ansley to Hans and Irma (Dady) Nielsen. He grew up in the Ansley area, attending and graduating from Ansley High School in 1956.

After high school, Richard enlisted in the US Air Force. While in the Air Force Richard learned his electrical trade.

On June 18, 1965, Richard was united in marriage to Mary "Javene" Ryan in Broken Bow. The couple made their home in Broken Bow.

Richard worked for Broken Bow Electric. They moved to Hastings with him working for ABC Electric. He returned to Broken Bow in 1971, starting his own business AC/DC Electric. In 2003 Richard started doing maintenance work at Off Broadway. Richard retired in 2013.

Richard's hobbies were building houses and shooting pool and he enjoyed dancing.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Hans and Irma; infant son Daniel; daughter Dixie; grandson Dawson; and brother Kenneth.

Richard is survived by wife Javene of Broken Bow; sons Randall (Jennifer) Nielsen of Broken Bow and Darren (Stephanie) Nielsen of Roeland Park, Kan.; daughter Tara (Justin) Nielsen of Hastings; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one on the way; brothers Marvin (Chris) Nielsen of Holstien and Ronnie Nielsen of Grand Island; and sister Linda (Ralph) Cure of Grand Island.

Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 5, at 10:30 AM at the Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.

A visitation and time to greet the family will be Thursday, Dec. 4, from 5-7 p.m., at Govier Brothers Mortuary.
